Over the course of taking this intro to English course, I have learned quite a bit about analyzing literature. For starters, I've gained a better understanding of the different critical approaches, such as Structuralism, Feminism, Freudism, and many others. I've also gained a better understanding of analyzing dramas, films, etc., like when we did an analysis of "The Silent Child", or looked at different plays, like "The Doll House" or "The Death of a Salesman'', and the many things that different people focused on, even from the same clip of the same play.
I thought I had a good grasp on analyzing literature before, but I've realized just how much more I still miss out on, and how much I've forgotten since my high school days. I've come to realize how you analyze something is as much of an important factor as the analysis itself. Different ways of analyzing let you see things in a different light, but as well you miss some things; each style has its strengths and weaknesses, and there is no perfect way of analyzing literature, only different ones.
I've also learned more about blog posts, about the different ways we can do things nowadays, and that everyday, we're each doing some sort of analysis, albeit, it's usually really casual among friends, but that doesn't change the fact that we still do analysis of things all the time. Basically, the skills from this class are used fairly often, and can definitely be improved. Before, I used to hate analysis, since I usually felt like it destroyed the book for me, and while I still might not be the most gung-ho person about analysis, I've still come to realize that sometimes, getting into the deep parts, and really coming to understand what it's saying brings a kind of satisfaction that I hadn't really had before.
Basically, I feel like while I've gotten better with analysis, but there's still a lot more for me to learn and improve on. I guess that's also how literature is, there's no perfect formula, or really a right or wrong answer when it comes to writing or analysis, but basically you give it the best you can, and try to give as much proof as you can. There's always something to improve, another angle to look at, another layer to go down, and that's one of the beauties of literature, there's an endless amount of viewpoints and ways of doing things. It's always helpful to see others, and how they do their process, and how their mind works, since that enables us to learn from them, and improve our own method of doing things.
